Touhou Merchandise

package01.jpgpackage02.jpgpackage03.jpgpackage04.jpgpackage05.jpgpackage06.jpgpackage07.jpgpackage08.jpgpackage09.jpg

Yesterday, I got a package of gifts from my friend in Japan! It’s a bunch of Touhou stuff from Reitaisai and Comiket earlier this year. It came in one of those regular white mail packets (regular except for the fact that it was a Japanese packet), but inside the packet was a gold-colored bag with the rest of the stuff inside. I took pictures with my dad’s camera, which you can see above.

There was a gold Omekashi bag, a blue Cirno plastic bag, a Maikaze music CD (well, it actually has 2 CDs), an art book, a book of lineart from the art book, a plastic rectangle thing with a picture of Cirno and a drink, a plastic Cirno keychain, a Youmu badge, and a letter. Very cool stuff. The art book is a collection of drawings and stuff from various artists, with Touhou characters wearing modern clothes. There were also some short comics in the book, apparently about Marisa starting a Gensokyo fashion show, which I guess sets up the artwork-based portion of the book (Scans can be found in a zip file here).

I still haven’t removed the Cirno keychain and Youmu badge from the plastic wrappers, but I probably will when I find some place to put them. I’ll probably put the keychain on my keys, because that’s what keychains are supposed to be for, right? Probably. Anyway, yeah… really nice stuff.

At first I thought that the CD was a DVD with MAIKAZE’s Touhou anime, and was incredibly jealous. I really wish I had an Atai Cirno keychain, though. Like everyone else said, you’re really lucky!

  • OH… MY… GOD, WANT @ Yakumo poster page

  • Suddenly everyone wants a Japanese friend.
Must think of something japanese people don’t have that we have, must resist the urge to want a japanese friend. :(

    Wow, I got nothing.

  • please post fashion scans plz

  • @Squidgy:

    We have KirbyM.

  • Youmu and Yuyuko is absolutely hot. I seriously want a poster of that.

  • At the request of a bunch of people, you can find a zip file of the artbook by clicking this link. This one right here. My scanner isn’t that good, and it’s not that big either, so some stuff may be cut off or blurry. It took awhile to scan these, actually. I have a newfound respect for people who scan things.

  • Thanks, Kirbs. In return, have Nitori’s EWI!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-twBchY2iPc

  • Damn, I spilled a cup of water over my keyboard while watching that. Thankfully it still works. right?

  • Cirno… keychain…
    NRFB… NRFB… NRFB… NRFB…

  • Yay, EWI!

… What the hell happened to Momizi at the end there? :O

    And what’s up with these vaguely-angsty flashback thingies? At least Mokou had a reason … <.<;

  • Japanese people do have access to KirbyM. That advantage just went right down the drain. Time to think of another :(

(darned japanese people speaking english these days, it’s really unfair!)

  • Hmm, Suika-gourd needs to be spawnable as a separate item! Also, Utsuho’s arm-cannon should be separate from her arms! Also, needs underground-city as a background. And Moriya shrine without signs. And winter Moriya shrine, for those who want to reenact the Extra stage fight from SA. And the Palace of the Earth Spirits! And the *baps self and goes to bed*

  • >KirbyM
    I read ya! You’re welcome.

Anyway, some of the goods are sold at White Canvas ( http://www.w-canvas.com/shopping/ ) and they do ship overseas. But their webpage is only in Japanese and quite user-unfriendly… not to forget your order gets stalled for several weeks if you order right after a major event (like Comic Market). But it’s still probably the best place to get Touhou items online.

  • see..the thing is…you cant just have any Japanese friends. You need to have a Japanese friend that’s not freaking lazy. I mean Seriously.. I ordered Touhou Bunkachou book like…what…5 months ago?! Grrrrrr !!!

  • that… cirno keychain… >

  • I wish I live in Japan…

Interestingly enough, I have a certain well-known personal friend that traveled to Japan to attend Comiket on buisness, recently…

But he actually didn’t end up going in. The line was absolutely MASSIVE to get into the place. And he actually took a few photos including the Comiket line, which he showed me, and it was unbelievably massive.

He waited in line for about 5 1/2 hours, and when he got close to the building, he discovered that he was actually in the line that went through the building to come back around, for admittance registry.

He just pretty much gave up at that point, and went back to the hotel, went down to Akihabara the next day and made the best of his stay without ever attending Comiket like he planned :P

Although he DID end up playing a little game at a Maid Cafe and won a free photo with two girls in maid costumes. And brought back a few souvenirs, some sweet photos of a Street Fighter IV arcade machine, Keroro Gunso and Crayon Shin-chan chips, and stuff.

I guess that counts for something.

Anyway… not everyone needs a Japanese friend. Sometimes, all you need is to have a friend that is popular enough and has enough money to go, take photos bring back souvenirs and show you want a fun time he had. :P

  • My plan is to build a floating island so I can float back and forth between Japan and US without ever leaving home. Well, disregard the fact that I’m currently on the wrong coast. Maybe a flying island would work better, but I’m sure that’d violate certain air space regulations. Maybe I’ll need some cannons.

Thinking about it, it’d probably just be easier to move to Japan.

Since, I didn’t update last week, I’ll give a sample of what’s coming up this week.

  • That Cirno plastic rectangle is like a clipboard, so you always have a flat surface to write on. They’re pretty popular in Japan. I imagine that Rinnosuke sells them as rectangular frisbees, or something.

  • You’re so lucky, Ki.
    Hope you have fun.

  • It must be nice having someone on the inside.
Now we can begin planning to invade the moon.

  • I want! I need to start making friends overseas or maybe go over Japan and bring some back myself.

  • @MarisaMuffin:

Momizi blew a vein there figuring out her next move. The both of them were playing a kind of Japanese board game similar to chess. Also known as Shogi. Evidently, Nitori checkmated her.

  • And, I suppose those of you outside Japan wouldn’t know, but, the Cirno-holding-a-bottle is a spoof on this:
    http://www.konami.jp/mgs4/jp/regain/index.html

“Regain” is one of those energy drinks, (which are quite popular in Japan)… kind of like “Red Bull,” if you know what I mean.

Mmm… I’ll post pictures of Comiket on ShrineMaiden sometime, I guess. Just to show what it means by a 5 and a half hour line.

And also, btw, some Nameless Fairy posted that this is a “shitajiki” (a plastic writing mat used to create a flat writing surface as well as avoid smearing of the ink/lead on the reverse side of the paper), but it’s actually not. Yes, anime/game themed shitajiki’s are popular, and yes, there are Touhou ones out there, but that yellow thing is actually a small plastic placard inspired by those “Baby in Car” placards people put on the car… so, it used to be “XX on the Car,” but it kind of digressed into all these weird parody placards.

And so I think a lot of people in Japan have forgotten what they originally were. They just hang those in their rooms now. Haha… I have one outside my room that says “Recruiting Shikigami” ;p

  • Kay.

Speaking of Japanese games, that Mahjong game in Variant Youyoumu 2 got sillier than Death Note. (Especially since it ends with Yukari saying “Just as planned! I’m going to bed now.”)

  • Variant Youyoumu? I didn’t bother reading it. Somehow, mahjong sounds weird. Wouldn’t have minded if it was Go or something though.

  • Japanese mahjong confuses the crap outta me. They’ve gotta be playing with calculator or something, I mean who the hell’s going to figure out 25000-10800?

Also I found some japanese mahjong game for the PS2, and you can’t win in certain conditions that I can’t figure out because it’s japanese. :(

  • Nice gingerbread man.

  • Marissa Stole The 1957 Buick
  • @Thefre:

What you need is a nice boat.

  • If you wait at the back of the line, you’re never going to get in, because everyone’s cutting in the middle of the line. :D

  • …AWESOME. *is jealous*

  • Marissa Stole The 1957 Buick

@Squidgy: Well, if you examine the above picture, you’ll see that it’s not single file.. it’s literally a whole crowd even in the “middle”.

And even the “middle” of the line is at least a about 50 yards or so. That is to say, before you actually get into the BUILDING. Which there is STILL more waiting.

There’s more people waiting in “line” in this picture, than there are at most sporting events. O_o

In fact, it’s not even accurate to say ‘waiting in a line”. It’s more accurate to say “waiting in a large crowd.”

  • from these pictures, i have deduced that KirbyM is a male

    220lbs is his weight

and he is 5 feet tall, 9 inches

thank you and have a good day

  • @Marissa Stole The 1957 Buick:

    That’s not a line, that’s Danmaku!

  • @Oni Neko:

I don’t think I can make it through; I’ll have to bomb.

  • Ah, doujin. I have a number of Touhou doujins too, though I got them when I bought some random stuff from a friend in the States who either had to throw ’em out or send them to other people.

  • I want that Cirno keychain D:

  • Oh, where do I know the Cirno keychain from?
    Oh right… I’ve got the same http://dejay.iplanet.at/nubirak.jpg

But nice items you got there. I have just some games, figure keychains and IOSYS albums. :D

  • I am so envious of you right now that I might as well be related to Parsee.
