This image was posted on the Touhou imageboard today, and well… it’s Ikubi Akius from the Suika flash! A direct Walfas reference in a Japanese doujin! If this were a daily flash, this would be the part where Marisa says “No way! That’s impossible!” But seriously, this is quite awesome and surprising. Since I can’t read Japanese, I don’t know the source or what the text means, so I don’t really have much else to say besides the fact that it’s awesome.
Edit: Here’s a translation! Apparently it’s for some sort of convention or something.
And unfortunately, this new comic by ChiisaiRamen will probably be overshadowed with this awesome news. But anyway, Chii is an awesome person so please don’t judge him based on the fact that he has a DeviantArt account. So from now on, to prevent further conflicts (if you’d call it that), I’ll be linking to the images directly rather than linking to DeviantArt. So yeah.

I’ve no earthly idea WHY there would be a “conflict” in the first place, seeing as there’s really nothing wrong with DeviantArt in the first place.

That kind of thing is precisely why the jaded internet people that once were thought to be “so cool” with their “n00b pwning” smarmy, smart*** little 4 word comments, have gone from looking cool to being site warring, fanboyish douches.
It’s the kind of people that go around, randomly commenting their self-centered and ignorant opinions like “People from (insert website here) sucks and (name of website here) sucks!!” who seem to be unable to realize that they both…
A. arrogantly stating their own lame trolling opinion as a fact, and
B. coming across as a know-nothing douchebag with a 5-word-or-less nonconstructive, retarded comment.
In short, it’s ultimately pointless for idiots to engage in pointless “site warz”, and sadly, they make great blogs like this look bad when they start adding such ridiculously stupid and unintelligent thoughts as “DeviantArt fags can burn in hell.” while acting proud to make such a stupid comment.
In short: You shouldn’t have to exclude linking to certain websites… certain people should just not write douchebaggy comments against DeviantArt in the first place.

Your suika thing comes in as a reference to the last large bullet point, which talks about how adult items will absolutely not be sold to minors, in accordance with the Aichi-ken Youth Protection Act (Article VI, Section 4).
And on the bottom there’s a cute little message that says no one’s allowed to drink or smoke inside the convention hall. It’s kinda cute XD

The only other problem with DeviantArt is that the site is inefficient for the viewers to use. Probably less noticeable if you’ve got a computer less ancient than mine, though. But even with a decently fast system, the site still requires more clicking than it ought to.

About DeviantArt: I think Anonymous pretty much highlighted why people don’t like DA (that people think that the users are stupid). I don’t really think it’s some “site war”.
About Walfas.org: The nico video of the GTA mod that was posted actually has a comment in it that says “Go to Walfas.org if you don’t know what Reimu Burger is”, or something to that effect. Pretty amusing.
About being recognized: From what I’ve seen, it’s actually pretty hard for an English thing to get recognized by the Japanese public, especially with something that already has a ton of Japanese support and fan art for it already, like the Touhou franchise. I’m inclined to believe it’s because these flashes have something to offer that the Japanese Touhou community either simply doesn’t offer, or doesn’t have much of. In my opinion, Walfas IS something you don’t see a lot of, period. Very amusing site. Reminds me of hail-nekoyasha’s stuff (which ironically is hosted on DA). The style and content are obviously different, but I think I like it for similar reasons.

@name: You forgot to mention that KirbyM’s art is adorable; 11s love that. Adorable and hilarious; that’s a winning combination in most recognized nationalities, but in the Japanese fan community especially. Mmm, yes, the “adorable-ness” certainly adds to the charm. That does give a nod to what I meant; considering how big the Touhou Japanese community is, there’s bound to be a ton of equally adorable fan-made things already without having to go into a niche blog. Not to mention the fact that someone, if not the person who drew that image in the convention pamphlet, was willing to translate the text, and from my experience, English is not exactly something most Japanese are particularly fluent in.
I won’t say I know the exact details as to why Walfas is indeed being recognized, but from the aspects I did detail heretofore, I’m led to believe that the recognition is, silly as it sounds, quite an achievement. Pretty cool that people from another country are paying their tributes to Walfas’s stuff.
