Based on a true story. Two days ago, at like… 4:30am, I was awoken by some strange noise outside. I don’t know why I ignored it, but I guess I probably just thought I was dreaming or something. But then it kept repeating and eventually it got really loud and it was pretty scary. It’s like someone was screaming right outside my window or something. Then I went upstairs and my dad said it was some cats fighting. And it probably was, but it was really scary. Like really.
Sometimes I hear yelling down the street and I know know there are just kids annoying people, but I always imagine something horrible like a murder, so I open my eyes wide and can’t sleep.
I imagined something nicer, that the kitty out side was one of those with the pull string and it vibrates…
I could imagine Nameless Character trying to sleep but Longhaired Character is just out side her bedroom window pulling the kitties pull string causing the kitty to go *MEOWRRRRRRRR~*
@The Gastronomic Gamer: Yeah, I always overreact when I hear sounds outside when I’m asleep. Probably because it’s so late and it’d be weird for people to be outside, so I’m always suspicious. And especially when it sounds really close to my window, as my window isn’t anywhere near the street where people would be walking, so I feel like someone’s trespassing. I always feel safer in an apartment.
@Marissa Stole the 1957 Buick: Yes… scariest thing ever. Especially when I never really see cats outside, ever. And when it seems to be happening right outside my window, or even in the next room. So scary.
Anyway, I guess the discussion for this blog post would go along the lines of “things you hear at night when trying to sleep.”
…Well, imagine a human screaming, put through a vocoder, layered ontop of several others, combined with the sound of a small baby screaming and puking at the same time, turned to a high volume level, and them played backwards and forwards at the same time.. now imagine that sound put into a blender.
That comes close to the sound cats make when they are having a deathmatch.
I once was awaken by my neighbors singing Flamingo that was out of batteries turning on (due to the paperboy throwing a paper at it). It sounded so creepy..
I haven’t heard a cat fight before, but we’ve had a bunch of car crashes near my house at night. I’m sure it’s almost the same when it wakes you up. Of course, any noise at night while trying to sleep in a basement-like room would be a tad scary.
What I hate the most are the shadows from plants by the window. Your mind goes crazy while trying to figure out what is at your window.
Oh, those classic “Creak!” noises. I know that they are caused by the wood that contracts at night, but still… >_>
And my roof. Sometimes it sounds like somebody is on my roof. I imagine that up there is a crook checking for entrances. It makes me shiver.
But nothing can top Earthquakes wake-up off. Those are the scariest things ever. Especially if your window vibrates like it’s going to break anytime soon.
I was taking care of a friend’s cat for a few days. When I left my door shut at night, she would make really strange guttural sounds–kind of like an old woman moaning–and it was quite unnerving. When I left the door open, she would come in and lick my fingers then run out when I moved or looked at her. Really, really strange cat.
Having Lived with a cat (who is sadly no longer among us), I have experienced things like that.
Commonly she would jump up on the windowsill, put a paw in the window blinds and make noise by pushing them down and letting it go back up until I woke up to let her out… … Yes, cats can be trained sorta.
One time though I was woken up by her kneading a piece of paper I left scattered in my room, and another time she woke me up by standing on the side of the bed with her face right in front of mine and meowing.
Then one time I was woken up by a little bit of scratching, and I sat in bed before it started again and pretty much intensified to the point that I thought an army of mice was hellbent on clawing through the wall to kill me…
Turns out it was my cat attacking the wall behind my bookcase.
It has happens to me as well. That sound is really creepy, and when not, it’s annoying. It’s like the moan of a crying child, and that makes me think “What is doing a child crying outside at the night?”, after that, it gots creepier, longer and louder.
But I know already that comes from cats. I even know how to imitate that sound xD
My proudly overgrown lawn has dissuaded any cats from coming anywhere near my area. It has also kept annoying kids and other nuisances off my property. Unfortunately, the city is pretty pissed about it, so I have to mow it all down. Actually, they’re probably only marginally pissed, but that’s not going to stop them from taking all of my money from me.
Anyway, I’m pretty much up all night, so I’m actually more conscious of the sounds of the day than that of night, such as the cries of cicadas. We have a lot here, and some are pretty crazy sounding (Almost cat like).
We do have a lot of frogs though, and I work near the front door. Sometimes I hear a loud thump on it and it’d be a frog that’s jumped onto the door.
CHEEEEEEEN! Again.
Sometimes I hear yelling down the street and I know know there are just kids annoying people, but I always imagine something horrible like a murder, so I open my eyes wide and can’t sleep.
c’mon!
s/he’s not going to make it about Marisa!
I’ve heard that sound, before. Two cats fighting, that is.
Believe me, when I say to everyone reading that it DOES sound horrific and unnatural. *shudders*

I have yet to hear the sound of two cats fighting. I HAVE heard gunshots in Phildelphia early in the morning…

It kinda sounds like……

Sometimes I hear people burning rubber down the street. That’s about it though.
The “RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR” in the flash made me think it was a chainsaw or something.

I loled @ Nameless character when she pulled out her pillow and began hugging it…cuz I do that too :3

yea cats make really scary sounds when they fight T_T i hate that sound so much
There’s always something watching me. Always. Even if I close the windows, lock the door. Something is watching me.
Hiding under the covers is the only time I feel safe.
…
… … …
I should stop being so paranoid.
lolcat
Hey, us cats have danmaku fights every now and then too.
And btw KirbyM I am glad to see how the imagery of Nameless Character sleeping in bed has evolved from the past. :3

oh i’ve heard that sound before..it’s like… muurrrRRRROWWEEAEAW!
I thought the australian tasmanian devils moved in over to canada.
I was expecting Chen and Orin having a fight outside the window.
I am disappointed. :(
I had a similar experience, except it was some drunk kids smashing up our car. First time I ever called the police.
Having Lived with a cat (who is sadly no longer among us), I have experienced things like that.

I expected Mystia Lorelei somehow. But this is cooler (and probably more true :P)
Meowy wowsers! :3
What’s worse is having cats that make funny noises. I once heard tiger meow loudly during the night and it sounded like ‘MAM!’
Chen is so naughty! Waking people up in the middle of the night! Bad kitty!
I can relate to this.

I lol’ed hard at this because I’ve heard so many cat fights, and know just what you mean.
On a completely unrelated note, today is the 9th anniversary of 9/9/99 and there’s no blog post to commemorate the event. Related, I guess:

@Kuiper: Today, 09/09, is the birthday of Len =D (Tsukihime/Melty Blood)
I know it’s off-topic, but ya know~~

Oh. I always thought of it as the birthday of the Dreamcast.
Something is bothering Reimu! What can it be?
