Heattokun, I think if the “cancer” line ruined your day you need to lighten up a bit.
Cancer can be a devastating illness, but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be able to make mention of it in less than serious manner. Influenza kills many people any year, that doesn’t mean you should avoid saying “I might be getting the flu” in a joke. If you make things socially unacceptable to mention in anything but serious situation you give those things an added artificial negative connotation, which will only exacerbate people’s feeling towards those subjects.
