International Saimoe League 2009

In other news, melange, one of the organizers of Touhou Seimoe 2007, has informed me that the Touhou characters that appeared in the recent Maikaze animation are eligible to be nominated for International Saimoe League 2009.

Here’s part of what he said, because I’m sure his explanation is probably better than the vague things I’d probably write:

Up to eight characters can be nominated, each with a different weightage of points. However, the organizers filter characters according to amount of screentime. So Reimu, Marisa, and Aya would better make the cut then Meiling.

There’s not much time left for nomination though; nominations end on the 0500 GMT on the 8th of Jan. Getting the word out has been slow because we only just got confirmation from the organizers that Touhou Kakyou Musou would be eligible.

So yeah, I guess that means… go nominate some of those characters!

The characters that appeared in the Maikaze animation are Hakurei Reimu, Shameimaru Aya, Kirisame Marisa, Izayoi Sakuya, Remilia Scarlet, Ibuki Suika, Patchouli Knowledge, and Hong Meiling, if anyone needs names. I don’t know whether they want surnames first or what, but I guess this is fine.

  • Yeah I already nominated.

  • fishball: A contest of moe! With nominations and voting! I’m never really too involved with these sorts of things, but it’s something like this.

  • CIRNO FOR PRESIDENT

OH WAIT CIRNO IS NOT A CANDIDATE

Eh, well, I just nominated six. Uhh, Reimu, Marisa, Remilia, Aya, Patchu and Sakuya in that order. Awesome!

  • *nominates IM@S characters*

  • I will not nominate because there is no Cirno :(

  • …OH CRAP I FORGOT SUIKA DX

  • REMILIA FOR PRESIDENT

  • International saimoe is rigged, who cares.

  • It’s rigged…?

I see what you did there

  • I don’t. :o

Latest Touhou Nekokayou for those who missed it in previous post …

  • Canon Remi is the most moe but they couldn’t take out her potential in the Maikaze anime (the same goes for her charisma level) but I’m still nominating her on first place ( ゚∀゚)b

So my guess would be Suika in first place (out of these), mostly because this beating Patchy’s mukyu~

    REMILIA FOR PRESIDENT

    PADDO JANAI
    HAIL BRITANNIA ( `゚Д゚´)ゞ

  • @MarisaMuffin: You forgot to add a “JAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” to Meiling.

  • Sorry for triple post but, why does the quote up there says “Touhou Kakyou Musou” when the title everywhere else says “Touhou Musou Kakyou”?

Should I even care at all about something like this?

  • I haven’t actually heard of Saimoe, but still, I nominated my 3 favourite characters from MaiKaze’s anime.

@Fubu72: Perhaps he wanted to use “QIPAOOOO” instead…? =P

  • Feety for president!

  • I did put in a joke sentence in the Chinese TL of the international message for ISML, telling ppl to nominate Touhou Chars, but they removed it to be fair, lol.

/me pales at the thought of more TLing after the list has been announced D=

  • SHAMEIMARU! That’s who I voted for. Hong came next of course.

  • If the second episode of the OVA come before the Summer 2009, and appears new characters, maybe more option can be available.

So, with Touhou characters, then they can eat many moé characters (possibly Reimu as a new Saimoe Champion?).

  • I fully expect them to put in the other characters they threw in during the original trailer sometimes in this anime…..

They showed, who haven’t seen screentime yet: Komachi, Alice, Yuyuko, and Youmu. So, lets all hope they do plan to include them. Heck, since Reimu knows the vampires didn’t do it, it’s only logical that the ghosts are the next target, IF they go by game order that is.

Wonder how Komachi will fit in if they use her…..

  • RAY-MOOOOOOOOOO!

    *boomies*

  • I feel like a lezzo voting on this but meh.

  • Suika beats every other character within the first few minutes of the anime, hands down.

  • There were 3 Saimoe contests last year and likely it’ll be the same this year. Nominations for the Korean and Japanese (i.e. main/original) Saimoe contests are around June, ISML is now. ISML is a League round-robin style, as opposed to tournament elimination – meaning any character that gets in will get 63 matches (i.e. faces every other contestant) this year.

  • In the mean time, how was that anime? Did bullet patterns transfer over well? Did the tiny red dot that lives inside each player character make a cameo?

  • There wasn’t too much danmaku actually which was a bit disappointing. What he have seen though was nicely done. I hope the next episode doesn’t take that long…

  • I’m guessing they didn’t want to have a repeat of the atrocious depiction of danmaku in Touhou Project Side Story. (See, it really is a “how not to do it” guide …)

  • Well, after a bit of searching, I am a bit disappointed the tiny dot didn’t make a cameo, but I did discover how Patchouri manages to stay so well informed.

    never mind just read over the post again ;;
    Reimu or Remilia

  • MarisaMuffin- *has looked at the picture* Whoa…. Is that a rifle Koakuma’s holding?

  • and I just finished reading HellSing

  • Koakuma with a submachine gun is extremely sexy though.

  • Marisa doesn’t stand a chance lol….. I expect to hear the death sound any minute…..

  • I already nominated them~

That Guy: Whoa…Wikipedia, Miko’s Secret, Touhou Youyoumu!? Since when did PCB become a book?

  • The same day it became a best selling trilogy, Along with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Imperishable Night.

  • well nominations have closed. It’ll be awhile before all duplicate entries for characters have been tallied and combined, so lets wait to see how they’ve done..

  • what no TH chars made it? well if you take a look @ the contestants its a very tough challenge too bad =(

  • @Immac
Noone said anything about Touhou characters not making it.. In fact last night the results of who made the cut into the prelims was announced:

    http://www.internationalsaimoe.com/

amd Reimu, Marisa, Aya, Remilia and Patchouli all made it.

Next will be 7 or 8 preliminary rounds which will whittle this number down to 27 characters who will join the 37 prequalified characters in the main league of 64.

In brief, these preliminary rounds will be held thus:
    1. 48 characters divided into 4 groups of 12.
    2. Each group will compete, the one with the most votes in each group will qualify for the main league.
    3. Remaining 44 characters are reshuffled into new groups and compete again until all 27 slots are filled.
(For more detailed information, please see the rules page)

The 1st preliminary round will be start on 0000 GMT, Monday, 19 January 2009.

  • # Touhou characters do not originate from an official anime. They originate from one marginally known OVA that was fan made. This OVA is not in the MAL database nor is it easily accessible
    # Touhou characters draw all their popularity from sources outside of the OVA they allegedly represent. While the members of this club in no way believe that moe should be factored exclusively from anime, we do believe that moe, especially in saimoe competitions, should be factored mostly or at least partially from anime. The touhou OVA is of zero importance to the touhou franchise and gains its characters zero independent popularity.
    # While it may increase participation in saimoe voting, there is a very real possibility that touhou characters will dominate the contest, and future contests to come. Touhou characters have a distinct advantage because of an established and avid fanbase (read: fanboys) due to the fact that touhou is a game, not an anime
    # In general, the touhou OVA lacks quality. The sole reason the OVA is watched is because of the inclusion of touhou characters. The OVA should bring popularity to its characters, not the other way around. Thus the inclusion of touhou characters in International Saimoe League 2009 is a travesty and a loophole
