We got to work more on our comics today in the morning class. Specifically, we had to finish transfering (and by “transfer” I mean “redraw”) our comics from our sketchbooks onto bristol paper, which is much higher-quality paper. The comic pages above are scans from my sketchbook, so they’re a lot messier than they actually are on the bristol paper. I’d scan what I have on the better paper, but they’re pretty much just the same thing, and I’d rather just wait until we’re done inking and scan them all at once.
We also worked with oil pastels on bristol paper, and she taught us a technique where we had to go over most of the paper with one color, and then draw stuff in pencil over it. The oil pastel on the paper kinda reduced the friction, so it felt odd when drawing on it in pencil because my lines would go further than expected. Then we had to use a darker version of the color (I forgot the technical term, but it’s like… if you start with yellow, you use orange) to do shading and stuff, and a lighter color for highlights. Then we used some bold color for clothing (in my case, blue), and then we made cross-hatching patterns with the pointy end of a thumbtack. I think it ended up looking pretty nice.
And here’s the progress I made today on the animation. I basically finished the cat and mouse running, the turning around, and the sunglasses guy holding up his gun. The last thing is supposed to be him shooting his gun, but I didn’t really get to finish with that, so it just looks like he’s moving it up.
Bristol paper! I use that for projects!
Hopefully you’ll put some of this flash stuff that you learned into your next Touhou flash.
Nice work
You should do some sort of goofy subversion of the bullet-time thing when you get to that. :3
I mean … beyond the fact that your character’s already practically a stick figure …
I really like how that cross-hatching came out on Unnamed Character’s clothes. I’m also looking forward to seeing the finished Adventures of Unnamed Pirate!
That class sounds fun
Where’d the sunglasses come from?
:O
that classmate looks suspiciously like nitori…
Are all walfas characters left handed? It leaves me to believe KirbyM is left handed. Or everything is mimicking the style of a flipped manga after localization. Either way, it’s interesting.
Looks like both animation and comic are coming along nicely.
@Bakaranger: You ever saw the girl in the Daily Flash about Clubs? Because she kind of looks like a cameo even though it’s not mentioned.
Unnamed Character in pastels is nice, it has a good, warm atomosphere.
Unnamed Character in pastels has officially broken my nutbladder. Any mechanics out there? I think it’ll need some serious repairs for this aching hurt before he next updates.
Whoa! that animation is sweet!
i see the guide lines on nameless character when it spins!
@Thefre: Nope, I’m not actually left-handed. And when I draw characters holding things, I never actually consider what hand they’re holding the object in, but it tends to be on their right side (from the perspective of the viewer).
