when I was in high school, I had an English teacher that was absolutely awesome, and my class far less so. he had to throw out all his lesson plans because my class was unwilling to learn, and write an entire cirriculum from scratch, which was much more successful.
at one point, we did exactly that as part of our lesson, analyzing other people’s papers, in this case ones he had previously prepared, using the standard paper grading method. one of the most interesting ones, though, was somewhat poorly worded, written by someone who had English as a third or fourth language, and when we were done he had come down on the class for everyone giving it low scores in multiple categories, when only one category really should have been where the points for poor english should have been docked, and otherwise it was very well structured
