Contests

Another possible title could be “when something bad happens to you but something bad also happened to someone else and you get into a discussion about which person has a worse situation” or “horrible schedules.” Well anyway, we got new schedules today, again. Mine is pretty much exactly the same as it was before, except I have a zero-period gym class, which starts at 7:30 in the morning. I’ll have to wake up at 6:30 every day, which isn’t really so great because now I’m used to waking up at 8. Now, my school day goes from 7:30 in the morning to 3:50ish in the afternoon, which is over 8 hours. Bleh.

I was fine with getting out of school late, because at least I got to sleep later, but now I guess I can’t do that anymore. I’ll probably get used to it after awhile, but it’s still a horrible schedule. And besides, I’m sure lots of people in the world have worse schedules than mine, so using Unnamed Character’s flawless logic, I have no right to complain.

Oh yeah, and in response to SomethingUnreal’s suggestion, you can now use the arrow keys on your keyboard to go back and forth between frames. You’ll have to click on the embedded flash to target the swf first, though.

  • Waagh this guy stole my first spot. :(

You have a REALLY BAD SCHEDULE. How many days of school do you have? I’m sure you get an earlier summer break to compensate for all those extra hours. :O

  • Okay, so uhh, I calculated and it’s around 42 hours and 40 minutes a week (five days a week; Mondays to Wednesdays are about 8 hours and 20 minutes each, Thursdays and Fridays are about 45 minutes shorter). Or something around that. I’m trying to search the internet to see if it’s even legal in New York for school days to be that long. Except I can’t really find anything.

  • Wow, your school sucks D;
Cant you take less classes or complain or something?

  • @coal: you cant complain, the schedules are probably based on what classes Kirby picked.

Also, a 7 mystic dragon ;__;. I feel your pain.

  • 7 enchanted Mystic Dragon Staff?
Why does that make me think of MapleStory and Mabinogi?

Aww sucks for you. Makes me kinda glad I’m homeschooled.

  • lol @ phoenix wright reference!

That aside; school hours are determined by the local county/district, aren’t they? The state really doesn’t say anything about school hours, or schools in general (not under their control if i remember correctly, they just deal with budgets) so technically, can’t they keep you there as long as they want? -shrugs- Might be different from state to state.

  • Yeah nevermind, I guess it’s legal. There are laws about minimum school hours, but not maximum school hours. I just read some article about school day length, and I was like “woah” at this:

“Students generally go from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week and for a few hours every other Saturday. They also go to school for several weeks in the summer.”

I guess I was right when I said there are people who have it worse. Except the difference is that my school isn’t a “low-income middle-school” like the one(s) in the article. The only reason my school day is so long is because of the times they have gym class at my school. My only free periods are 1st and 3rd periods, and apparently the first period gym class is full, and there are no high school gym classes during 3rd period. I don’t have room at the end of the day either, so they just stuck it at zero period.

Zero period shouldn’t even exist! Do any other schools even have a zero period? That just defeats the purpose of calling first period first period, because it’s not the first period of the day! I hope they don’t add something like a “negative one period” or something. Anyway yeah, that’s enough ranting for now.

  • My school starts at 8:15AM and ends at 2:47PM.

    I love it.

  • And I thought my five hour school days were bad…

  • my advice is… join Kaguya and her neet empire and then you’ll really appreciate school.

  • lol that sounds horrible i have to wake up at 6 30 also

  • We’re such a nerdy school, we compete to see who has the highest A.

  • We start at 7:40 and end at 2:44.

I, however, start at 6:45 and end around 7. Boo.

  • At my high school in Gerogia *yeah great state education wise* zero period is before the offical school hours begin. Most times it was for classes like SAT prep and gym to help upper classman and transfered students. I still showed up each morning before zero period to play games with my friends though. Well, I played games the whole day atleast two days a week.

Wait until you start college. If you sleep 8 hours a day, take 16 hours of classes, which is a lot, and study 2 hours for every hour in class, you have 64 hours of free time every week. Most days I’m done by 11, finish classwork by noon, and force myself to find ways to waste time for the rest of the day. Only problem is the TA’s…

  • I have to wake up 6am every day, and i have done that for 3 years now. it kills you i say.

  • Well… my college starts at 8:15am or so, yet i still have to wake up (every day) at 5:15am (to take an inter-urban bus, have to travel to another city over 120Km of my home) thank god my schedule has some holes on it and i use those to sleep in the library for a while, oh yeah then travel back to my home when classes are over (usually at 5pm) yayz day’s over finally -.-
    Overall (real)free time per day: 1hr ^^’

  • You think you have it bad!
I have to wakeup at 9: for a class that starts at 10!
You probably think it isn’t so bad but, the class is tuesday and I have to wakeup MONDAY!
    TRY TO BEAT THAT!

  • I’m a college student. My worst wake-up-ing time is 9 AM, and that’s only two days a week. Also, I have no class on Fridays.

    So nyah :P

  • My school starts at 7:10 and ends at 1:30. This semester I get out earlier in Thursdays (12:50) and even earlier in Fridays (12:00).

Do I win a prize for having a good schedule or do I get kicked in the face for it?

At the moment I write this I should be at bed already…

  • And if you hold down your arrow, it’s like an animation, except not!

    Exciting!

  • Wait until college. I had a day where I had classes at 8 AM, 12 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM, and 8 PM… and the 8 PM class frequently ran 3 hours.

Last time I signed up for recommended courses without looking at the scheduling, heh.

  • Hold it! People are forgetting to thank KirbyM for the keyboard support.
    Well, thanks. ^^

  • Ah, thanks for the keyboard support!

But seriously, i have to get up at like 6, even though school doesn’t start til like 7:25… long commute. Day ends at 2:10 (don’t get home til 3…) so eh.

Good luck with the long schedule!

  • Yay keyboard!

I once sold a valuable item to an NPC for like 10 gold. It was awful T_T

I get up at 5:30. Meh.

  • 10 or no balls.

Anyway, I’m in college…so I wake up at 7, and am finished with classes by 12.

Thanks for making your flashes more exciting by adding the keyboard to the mix! Now I can imagine funky beats in my head and have the characters remix to them. I can see it now…

  • He didn’t add them to the previous flashes, though.

    Oh well. Hooray!

  • The arrow key controls are nice! Thanks!

…My old high school schedule had me waking up around 6 (or 6:30 if I rushed), waiting for the bus around 7, starting 1st period at 7:45, and finishing at 2:59. (Why didn’t they just have it end at 3!?) If I stayed for clubs, I wouldn’t get home till around 5.

…But now that I’m in college, my earliest class is at 8 (with 40 minutes to drive, I still wake up around 6:30 twice a week), but my latest days start at 1:30! And I get out at 2:20 or 2:45! YEAH COLLEGE!

  • @marisamuffin

    He?

  • Keyboard support is most convinient.
College to me is like a job, 9-5 but I get paid. EMA is a good thing!

  • You all have it so lucky. I’m a college student.
I wake up at 6:30 AM everyday and end at around 6:20 PM.

It doesn’t help that I commute to school which takes anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours.

    =(

  • School? I miss school, especially high school. :(
I wake up at 2am, I am at work by 3:30am, start work at 4am.
I am paid for 8 hours of work, 5 days a week.
But I am done with work at 12:30~ :D
Leaving work by noon is the best ~

  • @Ash: Yes, he! I have no idea one way or the other, beyond the fact that Nameless Character is a girl and she “is not an accurate representation of myself at all” according to the first Daily Flash. Rawr!

  • “It doesn’t help that I commute to school which takes anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours.”

Dude, live closer to your school. Living right accross the street kicks ass, I wake up around 7:30 and am done by 1:00 on non lab days. Unless you live in a city it shouldnt be too hard, or are you still living with parents or something?

  • well I wake at 7:00 am (even if mah brains r still sleeping til 1:00pm)
I only drink a milkshake as a breakfast(seriously)(and yeah, Im too cheap as to buy something from the cafeteria) and I finish at 1:30 (or sooner sometimes) and I live near so I dont have to take the bus…
    …yeah, my schedule is awesome…

  • WHAT IS BREAKFAST O_O

  • @Squidgy: He gets an A in today’s breakfast class quiz, though. You could learn a thing or two from him.

  • Mine’s a bit long, but not so bad. Wake up at 6:30. Leave at 3:30, get home at four. Good thing I enjoy most of classes besides band and P.E.

  • Seeing as most people get up early, who here actually eats breakfast? I don’t, not enough time i guess, but eh.

(sidenote: is it just me or is the writing in the first frame a lot neater than usual, not that it’s a bad thing….)

  • You’re complaining of waking up at 6:30? I gotta wake up at 4:40 to get prepared for a 6:40 bus. Then I stay at school, on a normal day, from 7:00-13:50.
On a normal Marching Band day, it would be 7:00-17:30 each day. On a football game day for band, 7:00-22:00.

Each of my days are 7 hours-15 hours long.
