I actually had a daily flash idea similar to this one last school year, but I guess I just forgot about it until it was mentioned today in physics. Well anyway, for people who don’t know what SI Units are, here it is on Wikipedia. Just because I didn’t know what they were until last year. Well, I knew what meters and kilograms were, I just didn’t know they were called SI Units, because the US just has to be different with its inches and pounds and whatnot.
Anyway, I have the SAT IIs (everyone still calls them “the SAT IIs” even though they’re called “SAT subject tests” now) for Math 2 and Physics this Saturday, and I sorta haven’t studied at all, so I need to do that, and I might not feel like making as many daily flashes this week.
OH MY GOD!!!
please, don’t play with S.I Units… that’s like… play with an atomic bomb… (?)
OH MY GOD!!!! I’M FIRST!!!!
THAT’S AWESOME!!!!
Headphones character is pretty smart… :3
It smells like picado.
SOMEBODY SET UP US THE… METRIC RULER?
Also, always love that circle eyed expression for some reason.
Okay yeah, I just added another frame to the end because I remembered that the United States doesn’t really use the metric system.
Hooray! … sort of.
Actually, when you start printing your theorems to be released to the public science committee, everything must be converted to SI. So the U.S. doesn’t care up until College level Thermodynamics. D’ayyyyy :D
That’s not a Meter stick!
That’s Reimu’s Gohei!
@Project_Mars: Oh, that explains the fire.
Hooray for the fire!
Not so Hooray for the bad parents!
almost as evil as the pica unit…and their steel pica rulers…
That would explain House of Leaves.
My god, math and science is so scary. Just like how you should never ruin the meter stick, you should NEVER divide by zero. Ever.

cute
This is the first flash to make me laugh out loud in a while.
But… But, The World cares about S.I units….
Except that I don’t.
Don’t forget to take the ACT. And did you take the PSAT junior year?
(physics/history lesson)
The meter used to be defined as the separation between two scratches on a platinum-iridium bar preserved at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures in France, but now is defined to be exactly the distance traveled by light in a vacuum during a time interval of 1/299792458 of a second, thus relating this fundamental SI unit to a natural rather than a man-made quantity. In fact, of all the base SI units only the kilogram is still defined in terms of a man-made standard.
I’m American, but I prefer SI over USCS. Therefore, this flash pertains to my life. (spontaneous combustion)
Why does that little kid look so much Tsukasa?
seriously she looks just like her
Reimu obviously cares quite a bit about her SI Units.
oh god I love that last panel
SI units are superior because they’re standardized and are 10 base instead of that weird messed-up 12/3/8/whatever base the US units have. Geez. And to think that there was a time when the United States was considered the epitome of modernity and advance.
I think we need a new, 9-based measurement system.
@ratatosk
Yup, and they won’t even let scientists touch that International Kilogram Prototype… you have to use the replica, which is then used to make the prototype for other nations, which then creates their own replicas.
Really, look at how absurdly guarded it is… On top of that they stick it inside a safe in a well guarded temperature and humidity controlled room.

okay, the link broke at the apostrophe it seems, so, copy and paste if you want to see the kilogram prototype… or maybe Kirby can fix it. :/
Edit by KirbyM: The link in the above comment has been fixed!
why do I feel bad for “Metre”?
Well, just remember to RTFQ and you will be ok in the SAT II…
Anyways it’s worse for us who actually use the SI, becouse it doesn’t matter if you have them in kilometers, you have to remember to put them in meters or else it’s wrong for some reason even though it’s basically the same.
Kay.
I just happen to like SI. |3
“US units”? When did they stop being called “imperial units”? Oh, and don’t think it’s only the US that has to be different. A lot of people here in England still use miles/yards/feet/inches. =/
Also…
“metre”. =D
next time do a ‘walfas of the dead’ flash
Go use the metric system already. Sooner or later you’ll have to! :O
Could be worse.
At least we use the Gregorian calendar.
Also, SI units are better, but the Imperial system just sounds cooler.
You silly americans with your inches and pounds!
British inch along in life and use pounds too. :p
@Pyro:
Hey! I’m worth at least a good 150 in London.
Metric System > Brittish System
The Math and Physics Subject Tests are lame. Dynamics are going to show up a lot on the Physics test, and so are heat dynamics and Electric Systems. Math II’s are lole. Good luck on your Subject tests, I got 630 and 660 respectively ;_;
Somehow, that makes sense to me, since S.I. units are serious business when you go elsewhere. :P
the meter broke… Yay! I’m taller now! :D
