Pi R Squared.
The integral of z squared, dz
From 1 to the cube root of three
Times the cosine
Of three pi over nine
Is the log of the cube root of e.
I first saw that joke around a month ago and I was like:
“What the hell is that symbol, =_=”
and it took me like 10 minutes to realize it was a sideways five.
I think it would have been funnier if the # was a nine instead.
Ah, a classic one :3
Another one:
Find x
Indeed.
It’s funny because I studied the same thing about 1 or 2 months ago.
But I laughed more at the once again incomparable intellect of the Unnamed Character and her small hand movement.
Went to a math zoo.
Saw some hypotenuses…
.. oh wait, I get it now!!
lim!!
Nitpick: The “8” underneath the “lim” is missing a plus sign. Because this limit from the left side is negative infinity. Whatever, I’m being too picky.
Other than that, I loled at Nameless Character’s anticipation.
…I don’t get it.
Oh you unnamed character
EXCELSIOR!!!
Nevermind, I missed the “It’s funny because it’s incorrect!” part. And I just realized that I actually laughed more at the second panel than the rest… wow, I suck.
Hooray!
No, really. I don’t get it. :(
EXCELSIOR! I mean, AWESOME!
Here’s one: Why do mathematicians get Christmas and october mixed up?
Because: Oct(31)=Dec(25)
And another: You have a cylinder with a raduis Z and a height of A. What is the volume?
Answer: piZZA
Ah, math jokes in class; the good ol’ days.
Oops, I meant Halloween for the first one. I’ve heard of lots more math jokes, but I can’t seem to remember them.
Hahahahahha, lIm, hahahahahaha
I’M GOING TO DIVIDE YOU BY ZERO
The Ring: Before you die, you see 2(pi)R
HA HA HA! OH WOW!
no srsly, hahahaha, I have not heard that in all my years of calculus. I’ve heard other, not as cool jokes, but not this one.
If you don’t get it (and it’s too bad, every joke kinda gets ruined the moment it has to be explained) is that infinity looks like a sideways 8, so the guy thought that the limit as x approaches 5 of 1/x-5 was a sideways 5.
About the nitpick, I’m fairly sure the “because it’s incorrect” refers to unnamed character’s interpretation, not the joke itself. Granted, that would make your nitpick correct, but as you pointed out, it’s… just a nitpick.
That’s what I thought it was actually, but the way it was worded made me think it was something else. Ah well, Unnamed Character’s reaction was funny anyway.
All these math jokes reminded me of Sho Minamimoto. SINE! COSINE! TANGENT!!
@Fubu72: TOO ZETTA SLOW
I didn’t get it the first time, but then I was all like, “oh, I get it!”. Unnamed Character’s reaction was funny. Although personally I would’ve thought the limit would be nine.
…”No.”
@owenkiri: Ah, I’d forgotten about the decimal/octal one. =D
@ owenkiri
I’ve never heard the Oct(31) = Dec(25) before. I actually get it.
@ Akiraita
You know, if the number used was 9 instead of 5, wouldn’t that make the limit a sideways 9, like の? “No Unnamed Character, no!”
(that was a horrible pun)
I got this joke, I feel depressed now.
@Anonymous: I see what you did there. I give it an http://www.instantrimshot.com/ :x
@Anonymous: At least that one works. =P
We all know that mathematic puns are the first sine of madness.
excelsior indeed
@Anonymous: And I say it again, this reminds me of Sho Minamimoto.
SOHCAHTOA. Some Old Horses Can Always Hear Their Owner Approach.
I like the Japanese one phrase: OMAERA ZETTA OSEENDA YO!!
LOL! I get it! It’s funny becouse the teacher said “no”, and that looks like a sideways 9!
Seriously, the joke wich the Teacher said was so funny (I lol’d).
The Unnamed Character was funny too.
Unnamed Character should take a lesson or two from Cirno’s Math Class.
Expand:
(a b)^n
(a b)^n
(a b)^n
(a b)^n
o_o”
@ anynanymous: how did type in a kanji?
Indeed
@thagreatcreator
If you’re referring to の, copy/paste from Wikipedia. Works all the time.
@Anomymous (w/ sine of madness)
Why did I think of Reisen when I read that?
@Anonymous: *Keine headbutt*
Decided to take a more distinctive name to reduce confusion, what with all the other anonymii lurking here. Anyway, this is a little politically incorrect, but still good.
There was once a great native-American chief who had three wives. Two lived in teepees made of buffalo skins, but the third lived in a teepee made from a hippopotamus skin. During one particularly fertile season, all three wives became pregnant. One of the wives living in the teepee with a buffalo skin had a son, the other had a daughter, but the one living in the teepee made from the hippopotamus skin had twins – a boy and a girl. This just goes to show that the squaw of the hippopotamus is equal to the sum of the squaws of the hides.

There you go, expanded.

Haha I laughed.
Also, it took me a long time to get the original joke with the sideways 5.
