Photoelectric Effect

I really do spend too much time writing these fake newspaper articles. But it’s fun, so that’s fine. Also, if I hadn’t decided to make this daily flash, I would not have looked up the photoelectric effect on Wikipedia and I would not have known that it was discovered by Heinrich Hertz, who has a nifty SI unit named after him.

They probably stopped calling it the Hertz effect because then there would be two things named after him, which we all know can’t ever happen because it’s completely impossible. Or maybe because “photoelectric effect” is a name that actually says something the effect itself, rather than about the person who discovered it. Because it has to do with photons which are part of electromagnetic radiation.

School Surveys

Today we had to do one of those Department of Education surveys about our school experience, with a bunch of opinion-based questions (although some of them weren’t based on opinion, like what grade you were in or what classes you’re taking). And it was kinda interesting that we were asking each other what we put down for certain questions as if it were a test of some sort. Of course, if it were a real test, we wouldn’t be allowed to talk or else it would be seen as cheating, but yeah. Taking the survey reminded me of how my school doesn’t really have too many options for the classes we choose to take, but I guess that’s another issue.

Fiber Optics

I guess this could be considered a follow-up to the total internal reflection flash because fiber optics uses it to send information. Yes, the beginning is some more educational stuff! Click here if you would like to learn more about how fiber optic cables actually work! It’s interesting! Also, in the end, Long-Haired character is actually flickering that flashlight a billion times per second, but we just can’t see it because it’s so fast. Well, either that or she’s not really doing any flickering at all. You decide!

Total internal reflection

Wikipedia article about total internal reflection can be found here! You can probably find some cool examples on YouTube or something. Here‘s an example… with laser water. The recent daily flashes have been kinda over-educational, if that’s even possible, but I guess that’s fine, because learning is fun! Especially outside of school!

Actually, total internal reflection isn’t even really used in the latter part of the flash, since there’s just mirrors, but yeah. Anyway, Patchy’s first line was stolen from somewhere that I can’t really remember (I think it may have been an edit of a Touhou doujinshi page somewhere from a very long time ago where she says something similar). Yeah. Oh, and also, this flash serves as an excuse to bring up the diffraction daily flash again. That’s all.

Mathletics

Ah, mathletics. A clever portmanteau of the words “math” and “athletics” despite the fact that it’s not really very related to athletics. My school doesn’t have “mathletics” competitions (but it does have clubs based on math competitions like AMC), and I don’t actually know if any school actually uses the word “mathletics.” I just saw a sign at school with the word “athletics,” which came right after some other word ending with an M, and it sorta looked like the word “mathletics.” And that is the only reason why I made this daily flash. Well, besides the fact that having an actual math+athletics thing would be kinda cool to see.
