Colds (And Pixiv stuff!)

Who cares about today’s flash when there’s exciting news like this!

(no, this link does not lead to a Touhou flash)

It’s like that one time when Walfas somehow managed to pop into some sort of informative Japanese convention-goers pamphlet! Totaku linked to this on IRC and then I went around investigating! This one person on Pixiv (I can’t read Japanese but I assume the name’s ????) seems to draw quite a bit of Walfas-based art, and combines stuff from the daily flashes as well. Quite awesome and worth checking out. If you don’t feel like getting an account there, some of the images can be found here.

And here’s a bit of Walfas-style pixel artwork from another Pixiv member by the name 8bit. Hooray! It’s always nice to see fanart from people who speak a completely different language.

Luna Dial, Bleeper Style (and more site stuff)

Okay, so uhh… I just realized I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing, or how the transition thingy works. But anyhow, it actually only took about an hour to transfer the files over; I guess they already had a lot of it backed up already. The files transferred perfectly fine, except all the Japanese text on the blog turned into weird symbols (which I figured out how to fix). And now there’s some sort of “Attempt DNS Re-Point Tool” I have to use to repoint the DNS or something. I don’t really get it, but I guess I’ll just re-enable commenting and approve all the comments that have been held for moderation for now. The transfer process isn’t actually done yet, but… yeah.

Anyhow, here’s more bleeper music from SomethingUnreal! This time it’s Luna Dial, Sakuya’s theme.

組曲『ニコニコ動画』 全自動マリオVer (And site maintenance)

(Nicovideo link)

Here’s the 10-minute nicovideo song, accompanied with sounds from a few automatic Mario levels! No daily flash today, sorry.

In other news, as you may have noticed, the site goes down randomly sometimes, and I’m pretty sure I know why. A few months ago, the site’s host (ipowerweb) created some sort of new hosting platform with a bunch of new features and an updated admin panel or something, and requested for everyone to transfer all their stuff over to the new platform. This has happened before with another host (although it was one of those lame free hosts), and it definitely didn’t turn out well, so I didn’t really want to deal with transferring things until I absolutely knew I had to.

This site’s still on the old platform, and I’ve never gotten around to moving the stuff over; mostly because I like preserving the “date modified” things on uploaded files and whatever. Well luckily, the host has an automatic “account migration tool” that I can use to do it automatically, but doing so would take ~36 hours, which is a bit long considering that I update the site daily and this would mean I’d miss a day of updates.

I got an email on Monday (and I didn’t check that email account until earlier today) saying that I’d need to have the site on the new platform by May 19th, leaving me with about 11 days left. I figured I might as well start it soon and get it over with, rather than doing it on May 19th and encounter a bunch of problems that I can’t fix. So with that in mind, after I update create.swf tomorrow, I’m gonna shut down the site temporarily for about 36 hours (although I think I’ll just disable commenting and keep everything else up, if that’s possible). I probably won’t be updating the day after that (or if I do, you just won’t be able to comment until the next day), but it’ll probably just be a YouTube video anyhow, so you won’t be missing out on much. Hopefully, nothing goes wrong! I’ll go back up the SQL database now just in case.

100th daily flash!

It’s the 100th flash! Wanted to go with something big, like that daily flash about the 100,000 pageviews. Only this time, I’ve done more than just copy/paste frames from old flashes; I’ve edited most of the dialogue and added some other things, so now it actually flows together like some sort of weird story! It’s 176 frames long, and it’s sure to bring back some memories of the older daily flashes, if you’ve seen them.

Anyhow, thanks to all the readers who have been following my daily flashes up until now, and for all the feedback you all have provided over the months. 100 daily flashes, wooo! (There’s just something about landmark numbers like 100 that makes people go “wooo!”)

Renko

Renko Usami, create.swf, etc. Updated the interface somewhat also. Such updates include: wings added to preset characters, locking stuff means they’re completely locked (including changing to preset characters), fixed the shoe problem (where you couldn’t change shoes unless you used the menu or quick change), and uhh… I’m sure there was some other stuff that I can’t remember right now.

Possibly coming up next time: giant Yuyuko fan as a “back” object, more faces/accessories/stuff, character rotation/flipping, wraparound in selection menus, current zoom percentage, point-and-select from the list of preset characters, some sort of code-generating thing with commas and numbers and whatnot (if I can figure out how to do this), and Maribel Han! If you see any problems or have any suggestions for next update, go ahead and post them.

In other news, I just changed the site colors from light blue to green because it’s spring now. See you next winter, Letty!
