Donating Blood

I realized recently that I haven’t made a daily flash in awhile (since the end of April; I guess the daily flash characters were temporarily affected by swine flu or something). Anyway, yeah. Blood drives. They hold them at school every once in awhile, but I’ve never donated because I get uneasy at the fact that a pint seems like a lot of blood. Well, basically my view is summed up by Headphones Character’s brief explanation.

Swine Flu

Swine flu is spreading rapidly… as a topic of discussion! So many people are saying things along the lines of “Oh no, swine flu, we’re going to die!” and I can’t even look up “plural version of flu” on Google without getting a bunch of swine flu results in the first page. And even dictionary.com‘s entry about the word “flu” has “swine flu” in it! And now the swine flu is on this site! How did that happen?! Run! Run before you catch it from the internet!

Fiber Optics

I guess this could be considered a follow-up to the total internal reflection flash because fiber optics uses it to send information. Yes, the beginning is some more educational stuff! Click here if you would like to learn more about how fiber optic cables actually work! It’s interesting! Also, in the end, Long-Haired character is actually flickering that flashlight a billion times per second, but we just can’t see it because it’s so fast. Well, either that or she’s not really doing any flickering at all. You decide!

Taxes

This is perhaps the one of the most uninteresting things that I can ever make a daily flash about. I don’t know why, but I thought taxes might make an interesting daily flash. I spent some time thinking how I could possibly make this interesting, and then eventually I came to the realization that income taxes can never be interesting or fun. But here are some interesting tax-related quotes, and here are some interesting tax-related… tax deductions.

Anyway, the reason for this daily flash is that today in school, we had a guest speaker from the tax preparation company H&R Block who came in and taught us about filing income taxes (in addition to advertising the company), since we would have to do it eventually. I learned a lot more than I knew before (I knew almost nothing about taxes), but I also learned that filling out those tax forms in the future won’t be very fun at all. But then we got free H&R Block post-its, pamphlets, and pens, which I guess is pretty cool. But not really.

Image Verification

Also known as “captcha” codes. You don’t really need to input anything into the fields to continue, just click next. Anyway, I would have added a lot more frames if I had more time, but I don’t, so yeah. You can also find a lot of funny (and real) image-verification/captcha stuff on Google.

Edit (Aug 14, 2010): Woah no one noticed that this thing says 2008 instead of 2009
